The stamps of Perlis come from the smallest and northernmost of the Malay states, a quiet border kingdom tucked between Thailand and Kedah. Despite its size, Perlis produced some of the most refined and regal stamp designs in Malayan philately, emphasizing royal authority, Islamic heritage, and rural Malay life.

Perlis stamps are best known for their portrait issues of the Raja of Perlis, presented in finely engraved or richly colored designs that give these stamps a formal, almost ceremonial character. Alongside royal portraits, Perlis issues feature state emblems, traditional buildings, rice fields, water buffalo, and village scenes, reflecting the agricultural heart of the region.

Early stamps were issued from 1948 onward as part of the Malayan Postal Union and later the Federation of Malaya, with inscriptions in English and Malay. Though the total number of Perlis issues is relatively small, the designs are cohesive and elegant, making them especially appealing to collectors who enjoy focused, well-defined stamp series.
